The research challenges for this axis are to develop low power wireless and optical transceivers and energy efficient physical layer architectures. We will develop channel estimation techniques, wireless and optical waveforms, and equalization schemes for linear and nonlinear channels. AI techniques will be employed to deliver context aware transmission. The intra-axis expertise connects analysis modeling and simulation experts (e.g., Ajib, Driouch, and Leib) with physical layer experimentalist (e.g., Plant, Tremblay, and Zhang). The axis expertise will be deployed to operate wireless and optical transmission system test beds for link and system-level performance evaluations.

The work will use wireless transmission system infrastructure at ÉTS, and UQAM and optical transmission system infrastructure at McGill.
